CUSTOMER CARE
At the handy honey baker, we bake, well...bread. That doesn't seem like much to some, or most, we know. But to us, we really think it's quite a lot! Like 10,000+ years a-lot!
Say WHAT...you might say? Follow along.
Be it beer, wine, or bread [yogurt; kimchi and sauerkraut as well (though via bacteria rather than yeast)] humans have been using fermentation to preserve food naturally for millennia, with beer dating back some 13,000 years. Why is that significant?
Well, we've observed: it is part of what makes us human.
Long before cell phones & electronic tablets (not to be confused with stone tablets), breadmaking was a part of our very existence. Whether fermenting drinks or food--preserving kept early humans alive by killing contaminants while also allowing for storage and portability. Though it gets a bad wrap these days as a source of useless calories [evil carbohydrates, grrrrrr!], bread has actually been a staple of our collective, human diet and an aid to good health since the days of Clovis.
Fun fact: The Egyptians paid their laborers with...BEER! How do we know, you ask? It's written on the walls of pyramids!
So, at t.h.h.Baker...what do we do? We make new experiences and new memories for those who consume the fruits of our labor. We help gather people together and spur table conversation amongst friends and strangers during the holidays. We inspire nostalgia, resurrect a distant memory; we take you back to a forgotten vacation; or reconnect you to a long-lost moment with a loved one, a place, or a special day.
"I think of my grandmother and the bowl in which she allowed the bread dough to rise (which I still use in our home) when i get a whiff of that distinctive tangy smell that only yeast and dough provides", said the handy honey. "I am reminded of my childhood [and my desire to learn to make bread on my own]. I think of my wife and our trip to Rome, Italy, in 2010 (our first true getaway as a couple, before we were married and had kids); my thoughts take me to our visits to Colombia--my wife's country of origin--all through bread and fermentation.
My wife shares those same feelings and many similar memories of bread, in various forms and incarnations--as a girl and now has a mother--herself. That smell of yeast in rising dough triggers for her a similar joy that extends beyond the passing of time--a bridge between then and now--that takes you back 10,000 years--in an instant.
At t.h.h.Baker, we transcend the human experience one loaf at a time.
We don't make bread; we bake new memories.
